One of the largest and most diverse Iyengar communities, with a long history across Karnataka and neighboring regions.

Overview

Hebbar Iyengars are among the largest Sri Vaishnava groups in Karnataka. Their origins are linked to the migration of followers of Sri Ramanujacharya from Tamil regions into Karnataka centuries ago. Over time, they established settlements across Hassan, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Bengaluru and surrounding areas, developing a distinctive identity shaped by both Tamil and Kannada influences.

Historically, Hebbar families contributed to education, administration, scholarship, music and public service. Their religious life remains centred on Vishishtadvaita philosophy and traditional temple worship. Today, Hebbar Iyengars are spread across India and the world while maintaining strong ties to their Karnataka heritage and Sri Vaishnava roots.
